Job Description

As our first UI/UX Designer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the user experience of our revolutionary search engine that allows users to discover professionals using simple natural language. You will be responsible for crafting an intuitive and visually stunning UI that delights our users, and a UX that sets a new standard in the industry. You will work closely with our founders, product team, and engineering team to define and implement the UI/UX strategy, and will have a significant impact on the overall product direction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and develop the UI/UX strategy for our search engine, aligning with the company's mission and vision.
  • Design and prototype UI components, interfaces, and features that are intuitive, engaging, and visually appealing.
  • Conduct user research, gather feedback, and iterate on designs to ensure they meet user needs and expectations.
  • Collaborate with the product team to develop user stories, wireframes, and high-fidelity prototypes.
  • Work closely with the engineering team to ensure designs are implemented correctly and efficiently.
  • Develop and maintain design guidelines, standards, and assets (e.g., design systems, style guides).
  • Conduct A/B testing and usability testing to validate design decisions and identify areas for improvement.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging design patterns, applying this knowledge to continuously improve our UI/UX.
  • Provide design guidance and feedback to other teams, and contribute to the overall design culture within the organization.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in UI/UX design, with a focus on user-centered design principles.
  • Strong portfolio that showcases your design process, thinking, and outcomes.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Sketch, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and InVision.
  • Excellent understanding of human-centered design principles, user research methods, and usability testing.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively work with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, startup environment with a high level of ambiguity and uncertainty.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to iterate and adapt to changing requirements and feedback.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing for complex, data-driven applications and/or search engines.
  • Knowledge of front-end development and HTML/CSS, with the ability to communicate effectively with engineers.
  • Familiarity with design systems, style guides, and asset management.
  • Experience with user testing and research methods, including user interviews, surveys, and usability testing.
  • Knowledge of design tools such as Zeplin, Storybook, or Bit.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment, with familiarity with Scrum or Kanban.
  • Participation in design communities, conferences, or meetups, with a passion for staying current with industry trends and best practices.
